Lodore Canyon:
The Green River through Lodore Canyon is historically one of the first rivers to be run commercially. This river trip travels 45 miles through the canyons of Lodore, Whirlpool and Split Mountain in 3-5 days. All three canyons are within Dinosaur National Monument where the flow is regulated by the Flaming Gorge Dam. This monument is aptly named since it contains more than half of all the different kinds of dinosaurs that lived in North America. The Green River offers an easy pace river experience with ample opportunities for wildlife viewing, side hikes and fun whitewater. This is the perfect river trip for families offering a "hands on" experience with enough thrills for older children but not too many for their parents.

The rapids are rated Class II-III+ despite names like "Disaster Falls" and "Hell's Half Mile" which summoned "dread-full anticipation" from the early explorers. The whitewater is technical but fun. Everyday of the trip offers rapids of varying size. Trips are run in oar powered and paddle rafts. Inflatable kayaks may be available depending on water level and interest. Outfitters want the youngest participants to be at least 8 years old and they request that during times of high water (June) participants be at least 10 years old.

The season for the Green River is late May-early September. All trips originate and return to Vernal, Utah.
Prices start at $706 per person. Youth prices are available.
