Idaho Rafting Trips on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River

Overview:

The Middle Fork of the Salmon is the most famous section of
Idaho's Salmon River system. It is the premier alpine whitewater river having all the essential features that leave everyone that runs it looking for more. The river runs through the Frank Church Wilderness.  With the great whitewater, the abundance of wildlife, crystal clear water, hot springs and great fishing it is an experience that has something for all members of your group.  On this trip of 100 miles of river and more than 100 rapids you will be able to see boreal forests, granite canyons and large reaches of grasslands. The river descends 2700' from the put in at Boundary Creek to the take out at Cache Bar. It is rated Class III+

The Middle Fork is a superb fishing stream, and is one of the few native fisheries left in the
United States. There are many different fish that are abundant in this stream such as Dolly Varden, Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout, Steelhead, and endangered Chinook salmon. The Middle Fork is strictly catch and release which guarantees some great fishing.

Most Middle Fork trips offer both oar and paddle rafting.  For those more interested in fishing some trips offer a "drift" boat which enables fishermen even better access to this incredible river. The season runs from June- August. Most outfitters want the youngest participants to be 12 years old.  The age limit is subject to change depending on the time of year since the Middle Fork of the Salmon is a free flow river and much more challenging at higher water levels.  Trip lengths are 5-6 days depending on the time of year.
