Kayaking Trips in Baja






Coastal Itinerary:

This trip begins in Loreto, Mexico, and ends in La Paz.


Day 1: Arrive in Loreto by plane (please see the Transportation page for commercial carriers) and get settled at
your hotel (included). On your own for the evening.
Day 2: Meet in hotel lobby and transfer to our motor vessel to begin your adventure. Arrive at first night's camp in time for kayak instruction and orientation.
Day 3-6: Days will be spent kayaking and exploring this scenic coastline and camping on remote beaches. Other activities include hiking, snorkeling, fishing, bird watching and volleyball. Chance sightings of marine mammals happen and always add to the quality of the experience!

Days 7-8: We'll spend two nights at our base camp on the island of Espiritu Santo. Kayak, snorkel, hike, look, hear, feel, breathe, enjoy, relax, eat, drink, sleep. Repeat daily.
Day 9: Paddle to the end point and transfer to
La Paz. Tonight at a local hotel is included. On your own for the evening and group farewell dinner.
Day 10: Group taxis to La Paz airport for outbound flights or extend your stay a couple of days to include some day dives with the playful sea lions of Isla Los Islotes or or the Scalloped Hammerheads of the El Bajo seamount.

Trip fee includes:  Sleep kit (sleeping bag & pad), snorkel gear, related trip equipment (tent, kayak), hotels mentioned in trip itinerary, all meals prepared by our crew, beverages, and happy hour.

Islands Itinerary:
 

This trip begins in
La Paz and ends in Loreto.


Day 1: Arrive in La Paz by plane (please see the Transportation page for commercial carriers). On your own for the evening.

Day 2- 3: La Paz to Espiritu Santo Island: Our sea kayaking adventure begins as we board our 48' support vessel, the “Pez Sapo," and travel to Espiritu Santo Island, designated a global conservation priority by The Nature Conservancy because of its unique biological diversity. Our first day of paddling.

Day 4: Espiritu Santo Island to San Jose Island: We'll transfer by motor vessel to Isla San Jose, stopping at Los Islotes sea lion rookery to swim and snorkel! Later, we'll visit San Francisquito Island where we discover El Pardito. We'll spend the night camping on San Jose Island.

Day 5-6: San Jose and Catalana Islands: Early risers can enjoy bird watching at its morning best. In addition to snorkeling and kayaking, our days are spent exploring each island’s unique and endemic flora and fauna. We will kayak an average of four or more hours each day, doing most of the paddling in the morning. Weather in the Sea of Cortez is generally great. Evenings find us feasting on delicious food and enjoying happy hour cocktails.

Day 7-8: Transfer by motor vessel to Baja ‘mainland’  We'll explore the pristine Baja Peninsula on foot and by paddle and stop to chat with the local fishermen.

Day 9: La Paz: After breakfast, we may have time for one last paddle before our transfer to Loreto. You'll check into your hotel.  Day 10: Loreto to your home city.

Espiritu Santo Scheduled Three-Night Eco-Camp Itinerary:

 

This trip begins and ends in La Paz

Day 1: La Paz to Espiritu Santo Island Base Camp
We will head to the warehouse for our orientation and fit you for your snorkeling gear. A morning boat ride takes you to Espiritu Santo Island. Tonight you’ll enjoy a beautiful sunset over the Sea of Cortez while the staff prepares a delicious welcome dinner.

Day 2 - 3: Espiritu Santo Island Base Camp
After instruction in sea kayaking basics—and a dunk test— you’ll begin to paddle. From camp, you'll kayak along the shoreline to explore hidden coves, snorkel among dazzling fish, head to Los Islotes to swim and snorkel with the sea lions (an experience you'll never forget), visit a fresh water well for a rinse, and hike through gorgeous canyons up to high ridges for inspiring views. Evenings include delicious dinners and "happy hours."

Day 4: Espiritu Santo Island Base Camp to La Paz
The morning finds you kayaking, swimming, hiking or snorkeling. We return to La Paz by boat at mid-day after lunch for flights out or check-in to your hotel.

Magdalena Bay Scheduled Three-Night Itinerary:

These trips start and finish in
La Paz, Mexico.

Day 1: La Paz to Magdalena Bay: Today is an early morning departure as we travel to Magdalena Bay. Once we arrive at the Bay, a short boat ride delivers us to our base camp, where you'll have an orientation, assignment of tents and a safety briefing.

Day 2 - 3: Magdalena Bay: The surreal landscape of the ever changing sand dunes provides a dramatic backdrop for exciting excursions to see the gray whales! There are two excursions each day using motorized skiffs, each lasting up to three hours. You can also go kayaking on guide-led forays into the mangroves or other permitted paddling areas using our fleet of kayaks.Happy hour brings an opportunity to compare notes with fellow travelers while watching the sun disappear beneath the horizon. Following dinner, one of our experienced guides will present a natural history talk to help you learn more about the Baja Peninsula.
