Overview
There IS a one day trip in the Grand Canyon but there's only one outfitter who runs the trip and there's only one way to take the trip. The trips are motorized. There is NO paddling so you just sit back and enjoy the river and the magnificence of the Grand Canyon. The trips run from mid-March until October 31st.
The one day trips are run every day and leave from the town of Peach Springs, AZ. The trip will cover 35 miles of the Grand Canyon and includes the last rapids on the Colorado River. The rapids are in the first 10 miles of the trip followed by 25 miles of scenic calm water from Diamond Creek to Quartermaster Canyon. From there, you will be lifted out of the canyon by helicopter to the rim above. We think of this trip as a very scenic trip with a little bit of whitewater and a short but scenic helicopter flight. There are about 10 rapids, 4 of which are Class III (on a scale of I-VI) with a fun "roller coaster" type ride and you are going to get wet!
The trip will depart from Peach Springs, Arizona. You are transported to the river by bus down 20 miles of dirt road to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. You get on board and hit a rapid immediately! The boats are 22' motor powered inflated pontoon rafts (a catamaran arrangement) which carry up to 8 people each and there may be 4 to 5 boats traveling together. The trip includes round trip transportation from Peach Springs, lunch, a short hike to a pretty little waterfall and then a helicopter ride out of the Canyon around 2:30 PM. You will enjoy this very short but scenic perspective of the canyon as you fly up to Grand Canyon West. You are returned on about a 2 hour bus drive back to your car at Peach Springs arriving 5:30-7 PM. This excursion is an introduction to rafting & should whet your appetite for a longer Grand Canyon whitewater trip! The canyon is incredibly beautiful and you have that sense of being a mile deep in the earth.
The 2008 price is $351 per person including tax ($328 + tax)
